Early Life

Leslie Kotkin was always oriented towards education and reasoning. From an early childhood, she adored ideas and had always been eager to gain more knowledge that would define her further life.

Showing successful comprehension, Leslie loved to read during her childhood and developed a desire to know more on the surrounding environment. In school, she performed well academically, revealing inclinations towards courses that presented brain testing puzzles and of course an exploration of society and cultures.

Since Leslie was a teenager she paid much attention to the subjects of social sciences and humanities. She used to attend debates and write, practice how to express thoughts, how to build an argument in a piece of writing. Such experiences were beneficial to her future profession of an academician.

Leslie has also developed the principles of social justice, SDG in her early years of formative childhood. In her career, most of her accomplishments have been in the field of academia as both teacher and scholar. She went to get her postgraduate education and after her graduation, she got a Ph.D. in the area of her specialty.

Leslie has always worked at several well-known universities throughout her academic period. Her work includes literature from a variety of subfields within the social sciences; her interests and research areas are diverse, and she seems equally comfortable navigating a range of fields.

Leslie Kotkin’s personal life became public property after she married to Cornel West, a critically acclaimed American philosopher, writer and political activist.  Leslie and Cornel therefore met in circles that provided intellectualism and social justice as the pillars of their relationship.

It turns out they found in each other, not just intimate partners, but colleagues with whom they can have meaningful discourse on varied issues like philosophy, politics and the current global state. In her lifetime Leslie Kotkin has continued to have passion on her academic studies and also passion on education.

Though she married Cornel West which gave her a title and a platform to be seen but she is on her own merits that she earns. In Leslie’s case, curiosity, education and self-identity can be highlighted revealing that the influence and presence of a famous partner can be really significant.

She is a friend; a mentor and she has inspired countless students and colleagues throughout her academic career continuing to inspire those of us who are fortunate enough to come across her work.
